AMVCA 2022 Nominees Announced.

AMVCA 2022 is set to hold on the 14th of may as organizers announce nominees for this year's ceremony.


Arguably the most prestigious movie industry award on the African continent, The African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) is set to host her 8th edition award ceremony in Lagos on the 14th of May 2022.


For this edition, nominees have been confirmed in 33 categories. A total of 12 categories will be decided by viewers’ votes while 21 will be selected by the awards panel headed by seasoned filmmaker Victor Okhai. This year’s Best Soundtrack winner will also take home N1 million sponsored by Pepsi.


Leading the pack with 13 nominations this year is Okey Ogunjiofor’s film Amina directed by Izu Ojukwu including Best Overall Movie and Best Director category while Funke Akindele’s Omo Ghetto the Saga follows with eight nominations. The comedy-drama was nominated for Best Makeup, Best Costume Designer, Best movie W/Africa, Best Picture Editor, Best Sound Editor, and Best Overall Movie. Funke Akindele and Deyemi Okanlawon also got nominated for Best Actress in Comedy and Best Actor in Comedy for their respective roles in Omo Ghetto The Saga.


Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story equally bagged eight nominations: Best Cinematography, Best Supporting Actor, Best Makeup, Best Actor in Drama, Best Movie W/Africa, Best Art Editor, and Best Soundtrack.


This year, like always, the award ceremony is focused on shining the light on the many aspects that make the African film and television industry truly magical. In beaming that magic to millions of Africans who watch the award show yearly, they've introduced a category for Best Online Social Content Creator looking to also celebrate the efforts of social media content creators.
