Mo Abudu Debuts as a Film Director With Two Short Films

The film mogul debuts as a director with Her Perfect Life and Iyawo Mi, two short films that'll be made available for viewing soon.

Arguably Nigeria’s top filmmaker, Mo Abudu embarks on a new phase of her career as she begins principal photography for two short films - Her Perfect Life and Iyawo Mi (My Wife), a predominantly Yoruba language film.

Her Perfect Life, which is currently in principal photography, follows the story of a thirty-nine years old woman Onajite Johnson-Ibrahim, who seems to have the perfect life ー a flourishing career, a growing business, a loving husband and two bright, beautiful children. However, she suddenly wants to bring it all to an end. The thrilling drama stars Pearl Thusi and Joseph Benjamin, while they are supported by Omawunmi Dada, Uzo Osimpka, Christian Paul and Mary Lazarus.

Iyawo Mi (My Wife), on the other hand, is a Yoruba language film which features Adedimeji Lateef, Bolaji Ogunmola, Segun Arinze and Jude Chukwuka. The film tells the story of Kunle who arrives home one night to find a horror awaiting him. His wife, Eniola, seems to have gone mad; hallucinating, screaming at their children and neighbours, and threatening to kill everyone. Kunle decides to take matters into his own hands but what follows are dire repercussions and a complicated mess.

Since producing her first full-length feature, Fifty in 2015, Mo Abudu has guided the storytelling process of projects made by Ebonylife Studios as an executive producer and visionary, but she always sought experienced directors to helm each project. Now the film mogul is stepping into the role of a director, looking to expand on her already extensive repertoire.

According to her, "I believe in learning and understanding any major assignment I undertake. Directing is an art form that takes years to master, so I’m beginning with baby steps”.

As CEO of EbonyLife TV, Mo Abudu has led the production of numerous content annually. As an executive producer, she has created some of the biggest blockbusters in Nigerian cinema, including The Wedding Party, Chief Daddy, Your Excellency and The Royal Hibiscus Hotel. Also, as part of a major deal with Netflix, she's produced successful films and shows like Castle & Castle, Oloture and the new captivating thriller Blood Sisters.
