Netflix announces first Nigerian Christmas special, A Naija Christmas

First of its kind, A Nigerian Christmas special is coming to Netflix on the 16th of December.

After the release of one of its multi-title Netflix slates collaboration with popular Nollywood director Kunle Afolayan in October, the popular streamer announces their first Nigerian Christmas original, ‘A Naija Christmas’ to premiere on the 16th of December 2021.

Set in Lagos, Nigeria, the comedy-drama film follows the lives of three brothers, Ugo, Chike and Obi, who make questionable lifestyle choices but are determined to carry out their mother's one wish: to bring home their partners on Christmas day. The only issue is that these partners don’t exist and they have to scramble to fulfil their dying mother’s wishes.

"A Naija Christmas," which will join the growing lineup of exclusive Nigerian Nollywood films, and will be one of the movies released as part of this holiday picturesque content released across the globe. The project features a host of Nollywood faves including Mercy Johnson, Kunle Remi, Efa Iwara, Ade Laoye, Abayomi Alvin, and the late Rachel Oniga who plays the loving, but relentless mother.


Kunle Afolayan, who has produced and directed some of Nollywood’s most popular comedy-dramas like Phone Swap, Mokaliki, and a host of others stated that this picture is one of a kind and he cannot wait for the audience to see it when it premieres in December.
