Press Play: New music from Asake, Loti, Victony & more

Your weekly dose of the best new sounds on the continent!

“Contour” - Joeboy

The young singer has steadily risen in the ranks of Nigeria’s music industry since his infectious breakout, “Baby”. His newest single “Contour” toes a similar line in a sweet serenade about unrequited love. Joeboy’s vocals go on to form a healthy dovetail with the record’s heavily-strung, bouncy production. It could turn out to be a serious banger while sitting in Lagos traffic.

“Terminator” - Asake

Sungbaman returns with the latest attempt to further steal our hearts with “Terminator”. The record is uplifting and smile-inducing, as Asake uses his trusted choir-esque formula to craft another easily digestible hit record. He knocks it out the park, and “Terminator” is sure to whet our appetite for his debut album Mr. Money With The Vibe which drops in September.

“Damaged” - Whoisakin

Our favorite masked enigma returns with another record, titled “Damaged”. He caught our ears with his promising debut project Full Moon Weekends, and on this record, he sings about more heartbreak and finding peace in his mind. “Damaged” is a moody rendition with ties to his mysterious aura, as he is cut from a cloth that’s similar to Omah Lay’s.

“Wagwan” - Loti

What an intro. Loti released his latest project, Gorimapa Gangsta Vol. 1 today, after months of attentive anticipation. “Wagwan” is a feel-good record that will be the soundtrack of many kickbacks in the next few months. Loti rides the beat with an ease that has led many listeners to gravitate to his sound.

“Anointing” - Anonymous Music, Victony

Victony’s sultry voice has Nigeria in a chokehold currently. He leaves his mark on everything he touches, including this new record with Anonymous Music, titled “Anointing”. He carries his spell-binding delivery into this record, sliding across the bouncy production with consummate ease.
