Your weekly dose of the best new sounds on the continent!

“Propeller” - Jae5 featuring BNXN and Dave

Jae5 continues the strategy of producers earning off their own music with a new record, “Propeller”. He taps up BNXN, who drops a performance characteristic of his recent rise over the last few months. Dave’s work on the song is one to take notice of, as lays his verses in his usual laidback cadence that makes every word he says stick. Together they put together a smooth and easily digestible record bound to catch a lot of ears.

“Fididi” - Spinall & Flash

There’s something about Flash that makes you take notice. It could be his smooth delivery across several beats or his melodious voice that sticks with your senses. Either way, “Fididi” gives you everything you have come to expect from a Flash record. Spinall has a penchant for selecting unique artists to work with, and after his exploits with the infectious “PALAZZO”, he presents a worthy follow-up.

“Bad Girl” - DJ Tunez, Wande Coal and Victony

After hearing this song, I asked if it was possible for Victony to miss. The answer to that question will be known after a few months more, but right now, he’s on fire. It makes sense that DJ Tunez tapped him up for “Bad Girl” after his exploits on his Outlaw project and several captivating verses. Wande Coal’s presence brings a balancing effect to the record, tying the song together with a typical sultry WC performance. It is a good combination of talents that come together over Tunez’s percussive production.

“Gettin’ Hot” - Azanti

Azanti’s talent is slowly gaining the traction it deserves. He put out a new song, “Gettin’ Hot”, with an upbeat, party vibe guaranteed to get you off your feet. BURSSBRAIN’s production sets the tone for an eclectic performance by Azanti. He croons ”its getting hot in here”, reminiscent of Nelly’s 2002 smash hit. Azanti’s rise is nice to witness in real-time, and it’s interesting to see where the Abuja-bred artist ends up.

“Full Current (That’s My Baby)” - Phyno & Tekno

Phyno and Tekno link up for a new song, titled “Full Current”. Two veterans of Nigeria’s mainstream music scene, their seasoned songwriting and execution is evident in this upbeat love song. Tekno comes on this song off the back of his viral hit with Kizz Daniel, “Buga”. Phyno croons ”When I look at you/I know there is something about you”, expressing vulnerability for his love interest. It is a good attempt from these two superstars and it’s nice to hear music from them again.
