The Global Citizen Festival 2022 Was A World Celebration

Featuring performances from Tems, Sza, Usher, Rosalia, Jonas Brothers and more.

On the 10th year anniversary of the Global Citizen Festival, the world came out to celebrate. Across two continents, the Global Citizen Festival put together two shows that were held on the same day, 24th September 2022. Between New York and Accra, the GCF was able to call together several regional and global superstars. Judging from the clips that have surfaced over the last few hours, both shows turned out to be a massive success.

GCF was a free ticketed event. In addition to the massive turnout in person, its live stream amassed over 670k views in 24 hours.

The Accra show was a treat. Ghanaian music legend Sarkodie brought heavy amounts of energy when he performed his 2014 smash hit “Original”. The uproar when he was introduced was deafening, and he obliged with a decent performance. Tems, clad in a baby blue jumpsuit and a skirt to match, endeared the Ghanaian audience to her with her smooth rendition of “Damages”, which smoothly transitioned into her and Wizkid’s 2021 global smash, “Essence”. Gyakie looked beautiful as she sang “Something” along with her fans, making for a heartwarming spectacle. And to top it off, American singer/songwriter SZA put on a swaying rendition of “Love Galore” which certainly won her new hearts on the night.

In New York, the case was the same. As Priyanka Chopra Jonas graced the stage for a few addresses, her husband Nick performed with his brothers and the rest of his band, the Jonas Brothers. Their performance of “Burnin Up” brought back the fondest memories from their time as Disney stars. Spanish singer/songwriter Rosalia, while laying on a piano, came on to a fond response. She went through her extensive catalog, performing songs like “La Fama”, “Hentai” and “Delirio de Grandeza”. Charlie Puth and Angelique Kidjo also made an appearance.
