This has been a good year for Afrobeats. Since the turn of 2022, our artists have treated us to several scrumptious records. We continue to hit new heights, set new trends and spread our art through the four corners of the earth. Now that the year is wrapping up, everyone wants to go out with a bang.
Who else would you look to for a banger right now other than Mr. Money? “Omo Ope” took the country by storm, and it was a prophecy about the influence Asake would have on Nigerians and the world alike. He put out one of the best projects this year, spreading his infectious vibe with captivating vocals and lyrics. Without question, Asake is one of 2022’s true winners.
So it was no surprise when the news about a collaboration with Tiwa Savage came to light. A legend of Nigeria’s music space, Tiwa already stuck to the mainstream rotation with her effort on Major Lazer’s “Koo-Koo Fun”. Tapping up Asake and MagicSticks for the new “Loaded” made all the sense at the time. Now that the record is released, the result is a certified banger.
The video came out as well. Asake was captivating as usual in front of the camera, moving with the confidence that shot him up to stardom. Together with Tiwa, they exhibited great synergy and mutual respect for each other’s craft. Their performances on the record were solid as well — even though Tiwa’s performance was lost on some people. They put it together nicely and that’s all that matters.
It remains to be seen how December in Lagos will turn out. Asake has already announced his show with Flytime, and Tiwa will surely grace a few stages as well. “Loaded” is sure to get the crowd pumped at the shows and it would be great to see these two put on a show for us.
